Delaware Eye Surgeons is excited to offer the RxSights™ Light Adjustable Lens by RxSight, which is the first and only lens that can be customized after cataract surgery.
With the Light Adjustable Lens, you will have the ability to adjust and preview your vision until it meets your personal desires and lifestyle requirements. This optimization is done by Dr. Simmerman or Dr. Menear after lens implantation through a series of light treatment procedures that take only a few minutes each.
Achieving Custom Vision with Light Adjustable Lens
The Light Adjustable Lens is made of a unique photosensitive material that changes the shape and power of your implanted lens in response to UV light. The LAL is the only adjustable IOL available that allows optimization of your vision after lens implantation and healing. The light treatments begin a minimum of three weeks after the IOL is implanted.
To get customization of your vision, you will preview and then compare possible vision outcomes with your doctor based on your personal preference and lifestyle requirements before getting a treatment. Then the doctor will apply a proprietary light treatment that reshapes your implanted lens to target your custom prescription.
Light Treatments
The LDD noninvasively delivers UV light to your Light Adjustable Lens which in turn adjusts your vision. This system is beneficial to doctors because it gives them flexibility to make adjustments and refinements to meet your specific criteria.
There is a minimum of 3 separate light treatments and each will last about 25-120 seconds. The total number of light treatments is determined on the success of the desired visual outcome that you and the doctor have selected. This can be 1 treatment & 2 lock ins or up to 3 treatments & 2 lock ins. Once the desired vision is achieved, the lens power is permanently locked with two final light treatments.
After Surgery Expectations
After surgery and during the period of UV light treatments, you will need to wear UV-blocking glasses that will be provided by the doctor. The glasses protect your eyes from exposure to all other sources of indoor and outdoor UV light. These UV protective glasses need to be worn during all waking hours, from the time of lens implantation until 24 hours after your last light lock in treatment is completed. Then you can remove the UV protective glasses and enjoy your custom vision!
