John B. Ferguson III, MD – Glaucoma and Cataract Laser Surgery in Wilmington
John B. Ferguson III, MD, is board certified by the American Academy of Ophthalmology and has been serving Wilmington cataract and glaucoma patients for 41 years. He performs two different types of laser surgeries; one treats a film that can grow after cataract surgery and the other is a glaucoma treatment that reduces intraocular pressure.
Dr. Ferguson is known as a physician who listens carefully, answers questions thoroughly and is readily accessible to his patients. With his extensive experience and state-of-the-art resources, he is able to provide the quality care each patient deserves.
Dr. Ferguson has a keen interest in medical ethics and has served on the Medical Ethics Committee of St. Francis Hospital for 12 years, during which time he has been in charge of developing programs and policies that keep patients’ best interests as the focus of care.
Dr. Ferguson has a desire to help those in need and has spent 18 years providing eye care for low income patients at the Nemours Clinic in Wilmington. He has been the primary ophthalmologist for the St. Clare Van since its inception. This medical outreach provides care for the homeless and indigent in the city of Wilmington.
Dr. Ferguson graduated from Thomas Jefferson University, where he received the Carrol R. Mullen award, an honor given to the top student in ophthalmology. He completed his residency at Thomas Jefferson University, which included training at the Scheie Eye Institute and the Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia.
